The National Museum of Ancient Art has been installed for almost 130 years in Alvor Palace, in Santos district, after the former Fine Arts National Museum was divided up.
It gathers one of the most important national collections of paintings, sculpture, jewelry and decorative arts, originating from Europe, Africa and the FarEast, in a total of more than 40,000 items. Several works on display are listed by the Portuguese State as National Treasures. Highlights as “national treasures” and it includes the famous panels of St. Vincent, by Nuno Gonçalves, and the Monstrance of Belém, masterpiece of Portuguese jewelry.
The museum offers an emblematic view over Tagus River and the port of Lisbon, and is a must stop for any visit to Lisbon, not only for the collection, but for the space itself, especially the surrounding gardens.
It is a privileged venue for events, with indoor and outdoor solutions.
