Portugal among the 20 countries with the most sustainable tourism in the world
Euromonitor International has developed a Sustainable Travel Index, to help destinations and travel companies to change their practices, towards more sustainable and purpose-oriented models of tourism. Each country was analysed on seven key pillars that make up sustainable tourism:
-Environmental Sustainability
-Social Sustainability
-Economic stability
-Risk
-Sustainability of Demand
-Sustainability of Transport
-Sustainability of Accommodation
The global ranking is dominated by the European countries that occupy the first 21 positions, with the Scandinavian countries in a position of clear preponderance.
In the more specific rankings, Portugal is said to have been the 5th country to make the most progress about economic sustainability, ranking in which it appears placed in 18th position.
