United Airlines will open a daily route between Porto and New York / Newark next May as part of its new 2018 calendar. This new connection, scheduled for October 4th, is now available for booking, according to the North American airline.
The daily flights on a Boing 757 are scheduled for 9:45 pm, from Newark (arriving in Porto at 9:50 pm) and 12:35 pm from Porto (arriving in the United States at 1:35 pm). In addition to this new route, United Airlines has also announced a new connection to Reykjavik and increased flight frequencies for Edinburgh and Zurich.
Porto City Hall considers this was only possible "thanks to the dynamics Porto is experiencing at this moment". Reacting on their website, the local authority highlights that this connection "places Porto on the route of the big cities to the US and values tremendously the destination and its economic competitiveness", adding that this "is another asset for the Portuguese candidacy to the EMA [European Medicines Agency] headquarters, where the local authority recently managed to include the city of Porto".
